About Us

Updated: 8/8/15

Hi, Welcome to our blog, "Adventures in Home Learning" Also known as "Our Homeschool Journey"

This is a new blog created to share our experiences of teaching our kids at home. Let me tell you a little bit about us.
I am a Mom of four beautiful kids, and a Grandma to a beautiful baby boy and a baby girl who is still brewing. (She is due to enter our world in December).

My oldest two kids, Ryan and Brittany, are both grown and out of the house starting their own lives.

These are my youngest two, my twin boys Brandon (top photo) and Jacob (bottom photo). The twins are seven years old and are transitioning from second to third grade during the summer.

Brandon's favorite video games are Minecraft, Plants Vs. Zombies, and Call of Duty. Brandon loves to swim, rock climb, read, and he loves to go camping.
Brandon's favorite subject in school is Science.
Brandon's favorite color is Red.
Brandon has a very big heart. He loves babies and animals.

Jacob's favorite video games are Minecraft, Plants Vs. Zombies, and Call of Duty. Jacob loves to go swimming, practice ninja moves, rock climb, mine for gems, and predict weather. Jacob also loves to go camping.
Jacob's favorite subject in school is Math.
Jacob's favorite color is Blue.
Jacob has High Functioning Autism and does his very best to cope the best he can. He is our fighter and is a very strong willed boy!

Oh, and this is me:

and this is the man of the house:

Although I have ALWAYS wanted to home school my boys, I was never brave enough to do it. The boys both attended preschool, kindergarten, and 1st grade in public schools here in Kansas. We have had both positive and negative experiences with our children attending the public schools. It was only after a very rough year in 1st grade that I decided it was time to try something different. I spent the summer researching alternative schooling options (including homeschooling) and finally decided on Kansas Connections Academy. We stuck with Connections Academy through the first semester of second grade and then decided we still needed more flexibility in our children's education. We chose to homeschool instead of doing school at home with the virtual public school. In the end we decided to use Time4Learning and we LOVE it! We have been using Time4Learning ever since.  We hope our experiences will help other families find the right fit for them. We hope you will follow our journey!
